After Narcissa had picked Isobella up from Addison's party, they went home to the Malfoy Mansion. Bright and early in the morning, they rose and snuck out before Lucius noticed to go to Henry's funeral.
Narcissa warned Isobella that she shouldn't come back to her house. Lucius was still angry at "that Lestrange girl" for her disobedience.
Isobella had nodded when Narcissa asked if she had somewhere to go. In all truth, she had no place at all but the Lestrange Manor. The Lestranges couldn't return, because the Ministry would capture them again. The only person that was there was little Evanthe and five little House Elves.
So she made her way home by the broom. It took a long time, but Isobella needed a long time. She needed to think.
Her suitcase hung on the broom. Her hair was in the wind. And her thoughts were flying faster than the broom itself.
When she reached the house, she opened the black iron gate and pulled out the old key. She opened the door and came in. "Evanthe?" she called.
Poor little thing, she jumped and screamed at the top of the staircase. She really wasn't used to visitors.
"It's Isobella." She hung her jacket in the broom closet. "School's over for me. How was your school?"
The girl nodded shyly. "Good," she answered.
"I think I may have something for you." Isobella unsnapped her suitcase and smacked it onto the marble floor. Bang! She threw her clothes onto the side and dug into the suitcase deeper. "Here!"
She pulled out her second wand. It was always too fancy and delicate for Isobella. She slipped the blue and pink pearl case off of it. "I don't know why it hung around me. I obviously doesn't work as well as it could. Here." She handed it to Evanthe.
Evanthe's eyes bludged, and she began to cry. "No! No! I can't. You know that! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"
Isobella wrinkled up her nose. "I'll love you even if you're a squib. I just want to know."
"Promise?" the girl asked.
"Promise very much!"
The girl picked up the delicate beautiful wand and pointed it at a red vase of daisies that Evanthe had picked.
Evanthe put her left hand over her eyes. Then she waved it.
When Evanthe opened her eyes, she noticed three more flowers. "Did I?" she asked.
Isobella didn't say one word. She just smiled. "I knew you weren't. I knew it! Come on, I brought back some First Year Charm books!"
